This festival is a great combination of history, art, culture, music, food, community cooperation and happiness that is free from age, generation, gender and race of a person. Each day of Durga puja has its own significance in terms of wealth, auspiciousness, prosperity, knowledge and all other potent powers. People celebrate this occasion with full faith and devotion by the help of familiar sound of Dhak, Dhunuchi  nachh, the mild fragrance of Shiuli. The main objective of performing this festival is to propitiate Shakti, who plays a major role in an individual’s life. Those, who worship the Goddess Durga with complete trust gets great success in every aspect of life.
The celebration of Durga Puja is quite similar to the celebration of Ganesh Chaturth festival. As, on this eve, the devotees install crafted statutes of Goddess Durga in their homes and offices and at the end of Durga Puja Carnival, they carry those idols with much more music and dancing and immerse them in the water. Besides, after the installation of the idols of Goddess Durga, devotees perform a ritual called Pran Pratisthan in order to invoke her holy presence into them.
On the auspicious event of Durga Puja, people can enjoy numerous drama, dance, and cultural performances of many artists. Apart from this, there is a pre defined procedure to worship Goddess Durga during this carnival. The procedure includes different types of food offerings, water offerings, cloth offerings, decorative items, plants and flower offerings.
Along with this, for the purpose of executing the ritual smoothly, devotees have to arrange some puja items in advance such as Sindur (vermillion), panchabarner guri (powders of five different colours - turmeric, rice, kusum flowers or red aabir, rice chaff or coconut fibre burnt for the dark colour, bel patra or powdered wood apple leaves), panchapallab (leaves of five trees - mango, pakur or a species of fig, banyan, betal and Joggodumur or fig), pancha ratna (five types of gems - gold, diamond, sapphire, ruby and pearl), panchakoshay (bark of five trees - jaam, shimul, berela, kool, bokul powdered in equal portions and mixed with water), green coconut with stalk and three aashonanguriuk (finger ring made of kusha). Thus, I hope that this year again, Durga Puja will be performed in an effective manner to receive her blessings.
