Diwali 2012- Glow of Joy, wealth, cheerfulness



Diwali also termed as Deepawali is a festival of lights, which is celebrated not only in India but across the globe. This holy occasion is performed every year to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over the evil demons in the month of Ashwin (September- October). It shows the victory of truth over evil and represents the domination of light over darkness. According to the Hindu mythology, this festival is celebrated because on this day, Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya (his native place) after spending a prolonged period of fourteen years in his banishment. Every year, Diwali celebration continues for 5 days and Diwali Dates 2012 are as follows:
11th November 2012 - Dhanteras
12th November 2012 - Naraka Chaturdashi
13th November 2012 - Diwali/Laxmi Puja
14th November 2012 - Padwa (Govardhan Puja)
15th November 2012 – Bhaiduj (Yama Dwitiya)
Dhanteras: - It is the beginning or the first day of Diwali carnival. Traditionally, it is the day for cleaning and revival of new things with a joyous and festive mood. Moreover, old assets are replaced by the fresh ones on this day. As a part of custom, people buy gold, silver and utensils for their home as they believe that buying “Dhan” in some form of metal will bless them with luck and prosperity for their family. Business man performs Dhanteras puja by worshipping “Bahi-khatas” (account books).
Naraka Chaturdashi: - Naraka Chaturdashi or Lakshmi Puja Amavashya signifies the death of a demon Narakasur by Lord Krishna. This Chaturdashi is executed with diyas and the oil lamps along with the candle sticks.
Diwali: - It is one of the biggest festivals of India. On this auspicious day, devotees offer prayers to the idols of Lord Ganesh and Maa Lakshmi. Also, they wear new clothes and arrange gathering with family and friends. As per the Astrological point of view, wearing new clothes reflects back the ill-omens as well as prevail joy and peace in the life. Apart from this, home and shops are decorated with electric lights, lamps and candles on this event. Children burst crackers and an ample of dishes prepared in the home along with sweets.
Govardhan Puja: - On Govardhan puja, individuals prepare a special food called Annakoot (made up of 56 types of items) in order to distribute it to poor persons. In Bengal, Govardhan Puja is also known as kali Puja.
Bhaidooj:-It is the last day of Diwali and this day, sisters adorn the forehead of their brothers by putting Tilak as well as pray for long life of them and in return brothers offer present to their sisters.
Now days, people burst crackers recklessly without knowing the adverse affects of it. They will be going to face in the forthcoming years- the pollution. These crackers are very harmful and their use must be restricted. In order to avoid pollution, everyone should use eco-friendly crackers. Individuals should take an oath that they will perform Diwali without discomforting others and in an environment concerned manner. Thus, hopefully, Diwali 2012 will bless to all like every year.
