Yagya. So, one of his son reached the Ashram of Kapil Muni for searching the
horse, at that time, Mahatma Garud advised him to convince Ganga to come on
earth for the salvation of his brothers. And finally, Ganga came down to earth,
passing the hairs of Lord Shiva by the meditation of Bhagirath (son of King
Dilip).
On this auspicious occasion, people
gather to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Garh-Mukteshwar, Prayag, and Varanasi for the
purpose of taking a holy dip and also they take the river clay to worship at
home. Har-Ki-Pauri is witnessed of thousands of devotees, who visit from
different states of India including Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh
and Bihar. They celebrate this festival by performing some prayers on the name
of Goddess Ganga. Besides, there is an importance of Ganga Jal (water) on this
day, which is carried by the devotees to keep it in homes for purification. The
best atmosphere, individuals can enjoy in the evening on this eve as a lots of
leaf boats offer flames, flowers, and sweetmeats to the river as well as they
flow with the sounds of bells, bhajans, kirtans and shlokas that are performed
during the evening aarti.
Apart from this, on the pious day of Ganga Dussehra,
worshipers need to book hotels and dharamshalas in advance as most of the
devotees choose to stay at the bank of Ganges. As a result of huge gathering of
devotees, the markets of Har-Ki-Pauri and the entire Panchpuri turned into a
colourful city. Each and every individual executes this carnival in a proper
manner with pure heart in order to get blessing from the Ganges.
On this carnival, eleven priests
perform laghu rudrabhishek of mother Ganges in the morning time. Along with
this, persons can have the benefit of the most religious programme of mahabhishek
